Earliest meeting: Wednesday 14th March 1838
Final meeting: Wednesday 14th March 1838
The historic Cotswold village of Broadway, located midway between Evesham and Moreton-in-Marsh, is dominated by honey coloured Cotswold stone cottages which have lured visitors for hundreds of years. At the centre of the village is the Lygon Arms Hotel where Oliver Cromwell spent the night before the Battle of Worcester, and King Charles I rallied his troops. The village was known as the ‘jewel of the Cotswolds’ and held its own race meeting on Wednesday 14th March 1838 when the opening Broadway Chase saw Charity, owned by Mr Vevers, defeat the Mr Oliver owned Railroad. After a busy day of racing an Ordinary was served at the Lygon Arms. Despite the meeting being well attended, no future meetings under rules were held in the village. However, Broadway was the chosen home of the North Cotswold point-to-point meetings for many years.
